Episode 1 All These Years
Not sure how I feel about the time skip, but its not bad. I especially like how we don't see Korra until the last minute. She's in hiding, and boxing way below her level, but she seems to be getting around just fine. So I guess physically OK, mentally still wounded. I'm guessing Korra is supposed to be resting, but this is probably her own version of therapy.
The politics seem a little tired, or at least a little repetitive. You've got the strong leader who wants to rule with an iron fist, the clueless leader who is too self-absorbed to run their kingdom, the greedy politician, the victimized townspeople, etc. So far we've covered communism and anarchism (and whatever the spiritual episode was supposed to be), so what's next? Fascism?
Nits must be picked. This is the movie capital of the world, doesn't everyone here know Korra's face? Cutting her hair short shouldn't be enough of a disguise. The bandits, who are preying on subsistence peasants, and presumably have little more resources themselves somehow have an aircraft? Who are they raiding in the sky who wouldn't have their own air force? And how can they lift a ton of supplies off of an air bison, without their own tiny aircraft being ripped to shreds? You can barely strap a few light bombs to a light fighter, let alone carry cargo. When a show is this good, the few dumb things really stick out, but its also possible these things will be addressed later.
Episode 2
note from 2015.10
What happened here? I think I was just so caught up in the show that I stopped posting about it. And then when the show ended I went to the internet to commiserate, and didn't write about that either. I think I spent a lot of time the reddit subgroup, deviantart, and tumblr.
I still think about the show sometimes, still miss it. But I don't think its time to rewatch yet. Maybe when its streaming in HD, or on blue ray.
